An Interview with Karolin Van Loon on Jewelry, Color, and Rituals for Deporatvita Magazine

Karolin Van Loon is a creator who has always worked at the intersection of nature, design, and meaning. Her jewelry, crafted with Antwerp’s renowned precision, is minimal yet deeply symbolic. Each piece begins with a geode, an ancient stone holding its own energy and story, which she transforms into unique works of art. The result is jewelry that feels more like a talisman than an accessory—an object carrying femininity, mysticism, and the quiet strength of natural frequency.

Yet Karolin’s vision was never confined to jewelry alone. From the start, her fascination lay in color—authentic shades that emerge not from seasonal fashion palettes but from the earth itself. It is this idea that sparked her latest venture: The Beauty. In this new chapter, she translates the tones of minerals and stones into makeup, creating palettes that are as refined as her jewelry.

The Beauty is makeup with substance: shades that are versatile, elegant, and rooted in authenticity. They allow women to engage with beauty as a ritual rather than a trend, choosing colors that resonate personally instead of following what’s dictated. In the same way her jewelry carries energy, her palettes bring depth and emotion to the skin—natural colors elevated to something precious.

This duality—jewelry and makeup, stone and skin, design and ritual—is what makes Karolin Van Loon’s work so compelling. She creates with intention, and her vision consistently bridges the worlds of energy, artistry, and elegance.

We are thrilled to welcome her to our Magazine, where she speaks about her journey from jewelry to beauty, her inspirations, and her own rituals of self-care.

Your jewelry has a distinctive soul—minimal yet meaningful, mystical yet contemporary. How did this creative journey begin for you, and what first drew you to working with stones and design?

After working as an interior architect for 15 years, I took a pause when my children were born. What I thought would be a temporary work break evolved into a completely new creative direction and passion for jewelry making.

What drew me to working with agate geodes was their unique beauty, which often got overlooked. I want the natural beauty of the stones to speak for itself, while the diamonds add that touch of refined luxury. It's that balance—raw nature meeting the precision of fine jewelry—that defines my work.

Your latest venture, The Beauty, feels like a natural continuation of your vision. Why was beauty the next step for you, and how do you see it connecting with the world you built through jewelry?

KVL Beauty emerged from the same fascination that drives my jewelry work: color in its most authentic form. I've always believed that both jewelry and makeup are extensions of our inner selves, ways to express who we are without words. Just as my jewelry pieces carry energy from natural stones, the beauty line brings that same intentionality to makeup. It's about creating a dialogue between what we wear on our bodies and what we apply to our skin. Both are rituals of self-expression, both carry meaning beyond their physical form. The connection is in the approach: nothing trendy or fleeting, but rather timeless pieces—whether jewelry or makeup—that feel personal and powerful.

Both your jewelry and your makeup palettes explore color in a very intentional way. What does color mean to you, and how do you translate the energy of natural shades into something women can wear and experience daily?

Color is everything to me—it's energy made visible. When I work with stones, I'm drawn to their natural hues. These aren't colors chosen from a trend report; they're shades that have existed for millennia. With KVL Beauty, I translate these natural tones into wearable palettes. The Laguna eye shadow, for instance, captures those sun-warmed earth tones that feel both grounding and elevating. I want women to choose colors that resonate with them personally, not because someone dictated it's the color of the season. When you wear these shades, you're connecting with something deeper—natural frequencies that enhance rather than mask who you are.

Finally, our readers are always curious about rituals. Could you share a glimpse of your own personal routine—how you approach beauty, wellness, or self-care in your everyday life?

My days are structured around rituals that keep me grounded. I'm an early riser—up at 7 am and in bed by 10 pm. This rhythm suits me perfectly. Every Friday morning, I jog with my best friend; we run, talk, shower together, and continue chatting—it's my weekly reset. I cycle almost daily from Brasschaat to Antwerp, about 22 kilometers round trip. The city gives me a different kind of energy, a moment for myself. In terms of beauty, I keep it simple but intentional. I believe in enhancing rather than hiding, choosing products that feel like an extension of my skin. Self-care for me isn't about perfection; it's about consistency and authenticity. Whether I'm working with stones in my studio or applying makeup in the morning, it's all part of the same practice: honoring the natural while elevating it to something
special.
